Flood in Kogi: Help us or We Divorce our Husbands


This flood menace has taken a new dimension. I hope the government of Kogi state will ameliorate the suffering of this families in order to stop these women from fulfilling their threat.  

According to dailytrust Over 5000 house wives in Bassa Local Government Area of Kogi State have threatened to divorce their husbands if they failed to provide succor and shelters for them within two weeks.
The women stated this yesterday in Muzum area of the council during a post flood assessment to the area by National Orientation Agency in company of Journalists.
The Spokesperson of the women, Hajiya Laraba Isah said the people of the area were suffering and demand government attention and support in order to overcome the negative effects of last year’s flood.
The women however called on government at all level to assist the people of the area with food and other items since those they had before were destroyed by last year’s floods that ravaged the state.
She said the people especially women lost properties worth over N50 million to the floods hence they were unable to support their families as a result of the destruction.
According to her, they are suffering as most of them don’t have a place to call their home, saying they were ready to leave their husband if help did not come from government and other people.
Similarly, residents of Ajaokuta Local Government Area have appealed to the Federal and Kogi State governments to fulfill the promises they made to floods victim in the state.
The traditional rulers of the areas, Alhaji Bukar Abdul Khaid lamented that the victims were treated with disdain by government officials in sharing relief fund.
“They did not give out the money they promised to the victims. They announced that N7,000 would be  paid to them. But at the end they gave them N3,000,” he said
Alhaji Bukar  however called on governments at all level to assist the  people of the areas as their schools submerged by flood still remained closed while children run about the villages.
